2014 Review - A Brilliant New Pavilion

So a season of consolidation on the field of play but the club took yet another huge step forward off it. Our wonderful new sports pavilion is now in great demand by locals to use for parties, pilates and well, any event people wish to host! We can thank several people but the main protagonists that delivered this wonderful structure were:

  • Bill Hay, our funding tzar, who always manages to squeeze money out of the most unlikely places
  • architect Patrick Crowther who designed the drawings
  • project manager Chairman Neil Miller who worked tirelessly with the builders to ensure we were able to formally open just a few weeks late and finally…
  • builders Phil and Sean Goring whose team created our new palace in double quick time.

We have hosted several Sussex girls’ and boys’ area games this season as well as couple of touring sides and without exception, every opponent and all the locals have praised the design and appearance which suits the location so well in any season.

Before and after the pavilion had opened, we managed to raise around £2,500 on food and drink on Friday nights when the majority of colts were being trained. The fact that most of the coaching ran smoothly and both food and drink were served in double quick time was primarily down to Mandy Davies, Jim Gee and many parent helpers.

The football club are also doing their bit with a jumble sale which raised £900 in the Village Hall in late September, a Craig Pulling quiz which raised more than £600 and they raised another £2k on one of their legendary race nights in October. We have an ABBA night in November too and the pavilion opens regularly at night for private parties. If you can help behind the bar, please do contact bar manager Jim Gee here
