About West Chiltington & Thakeham CC

The club plays cricket at the West Chiltington Recreation Ground in a picturesque location near the South Downs. The original West Chiltington club was established in 1921, and for many years enjoyed playing cricket against local sides. In 2000, West Chiltington CC merged with its dormant neighbour Thakeham CC to create a more viable and competitive player base;  this allowed us to safeguard the Club into the future and to start challenging in the leagues we entered in addition to boosting resources for the Sunday friendly team.

The Club quickly rose through the divisions in the West Sussex County League and in 2006, celebrated being crowned champions of the First Division. This represented a spectacular rise in fortune through excellent club management and increased popularity.  The club launched a 2nd XI a year later to enter the League, and in doing so providing a greater platform for our colts to play competitive cricket alongside senior players.  In 2007, the Club were also delighted to be chosen to host Sussex CC opening batsman Richard Montgomerie’s testimonial game.  This was a thrilling day and raised well-earned funds for an excellent and loyal Sussex cricketer.  In 2008, West Chiltington & Thakeham CC was welcomed into the Sussex Invitation League, representing a new stage of the clubs playing development and new challenges.  We now play in the newly merged West Sussex Invitation Cricket League.  In 2009 Sussex CCC beneficiary, Murray Goodwin, came and opened our brand new nets and in 2010 we purchased some covers.  We raise money through a variety of sources and will continue to do so to benefit our playing staff.

COLTS: The club began an ambitious youth development policy in 2005 which has been a tremendous success for local community children and youths. We boast a number of ECB accredited coaches and the Colts section has teams represented in both the Identilam and West Area Leagues for the following age groups: Under 9s, Under 10s, Under 11s, Under 12s, Under 14s & Under 16s. The Club has been recognised as a Sussex Focus Club and was awarded the ECB ClubMark accreditation in 2007.

Fundamentally West Chiltington is a great place to play cricket in a friendly environment. If you or your family would like to join the club either to play or just assist us, please do contact us.
