2012 Fixtures

(April 14, 2012)

[Last Updated 22nd Feb]

Invitation League: Following a warm up games against Newdigate and WSICL Division 1 side Southwick 1sts, our 1sts start life in Division 2 in late April at the Rec. against Worthing Chippingdale and finish at the end of August with another home game against old West Sussex League rivals, West Blatchington.

After warm up games against Arundel and new adult opponents, Ewhurst, the 2nds start with a trip to Worthing Chipps 2nd XI and conclude four months later with a visit to new Invitation League team, Warnham, against their 1st XI. We are playing Worthing Chippingdale, Storrington, Eastergate and West Wittering four times in the league this year as their 1st and 2nd XIs (or in Wittering's case, their 2nds and 3rds) are in the same division as ourselves.

Our first ever 3rd XI game is at Charlwood at the end of April against Ifield 4ths.  The 2nds played there a few years ago (probably against their 4ths too).  Aside from having a "home" game at Amberley against Chichester Priory Park 4ths on July 14th (whilst many of the 1sts and 2nds are off on tour), the 3rds do visit some different grounds like Lower Beeding (Horsham Trinity) where the 2s have again played, Sayers Common (Henfield) as well as Chailey (Scaynes Hill 3rds) and Goodwood (Chi 4ths). The 3s also play on the John Dew Ground at Horsham and on the reserve square at Arundel. As a reminder, all 3rd XI home games are played at Amberley CC.

Other Friendly news: The Goodwood fixture on the 29th April, which was a 2nd's game, is now our first official Sunday fixture - the league starts for our three Invitation League sides the day before. In our first league break in mid May, the 1sts take on Brighton & Hove 3rds at the Rec whilst the 2nds visit Nevil Road to play their 4ths.

After a gap of a few years, Findon is back on the fixture card at home at the end of July on a Sunday and we also have a new friendly game at Bognor Regis against their Rebels on the first Sunday in June. Our traditional Sunday end of season game at Warnham has now been replaced by a 2nd XI trip on the last Saturday in September to picturesque Lavant. Finally the Midhurst fixture at the end of August has gone as they've priced themselves out of a game and they've been replaced by old friends, Barns Green.

Arundel Grasshopper

The Arundel Grasshoppers Sunday friendly fixture moves to Saturday in 2012 and becomes a 1st XI game as we play every fourth (leap) year at Arundel CastleFour years ago, the game was washed out so we're hoping for better weather in Olympic year. The game was scheduled on Saturday 1st September, the week after the league finishes, but Sir Tim Rice needs the ground that day so we're now playing on the Sunday. The Horsham 3rd XI friendly at their John Dew Ground has therefore been downgraded to a 2nd XI game as a result.

Cricket Week: Nazeing are back again as they have been every July since 2004 to start the week. We then have two deadly rivals - our two big neighbours - Pulborough and Billingshurst plus the Sussex Martlets and the President's game as all dayers to end the week.

Devon tour: mid July sees us head west when our second league break occurs (1st/2nd XIs). Our first tour for twenty years centres around Exeter. Full detail here

Finally we'll again have the Swans John Davenport T20 to contest (at Storrington's One Ground this year) and this game oftens draws the biggest crowd of the season. The Swans will be out to stop a Green and Gold hat trick in 2012.
