NewsWeek 14 - Under 12s win comfortably at Southwater (July 19, 2010)
OneClub News
Wednesday 14th July. The Midweek XI DREW with the Sussex Martlets at the Rec. MART 289-2 (Gee 1-77, Armstrong 1-90), WC&T 256-9 (Morrish 100, Armstrong 37*, M.Goring 35). A big success as we had Melbourne weather at the Rec - four seasons in one day. Grant Morrish who has made many runs here in the past but for Brighton Insurance ensured we didn't flounder chasing a big score. Two centurions for the Martletts on their first visit here and when we batted, six wickets for a Mr Lack although even their match day manager admitted some of his three stumpings were a little fortuitous. The Martlets will post a report on their website here and a repeat fixture next year is highly likely.
Thursday 15th July. The Under 11s LOST their unbeaten record to finish second to the eventual winners Roffey. WC&T 63-5 (Miller 21*), ROFF 64-1 (Cisotti 1-17). Scorecard So as last year, Malcolm's boys lose their last game and finish second. Al least they can console themselves with the festival this year which starts for them in a month's time. Well played boys - have a breather for a month!
The Under 9s game at Billingshurst was postponed.
Saturday 17th July. There were no adult league games today as we had our second league break - a 2nd XI friendly at Newdigate was cancelled. The 1st XI Table is shown below after our week off. Lots of one sided contests this week in Division Three. Chipps beat struggling Partridge Green by 6 wickets at Green to stay top. Barns Green suffered their second successive defeat being hammered by St Andrews who are now second. Three Bridges 3rds continued their slide - only managing a draw against bottom side Southwick 2nds - whilst improving BBH overcame Dome Mission easily at BBH by 8 wickets. All teams, except those currenly occupying the relegation places, will still feel they have a good chance of going up as we are in the tightest league of all. Only 29 points currently separate 2nd and 7th.

We play yet another key game at home to St Andrews 1sts next Saturday. Both Mick and the Foz will be absent so a big effort will be required from the remaining players to get the result needed.
Meanwhile it's looking bad for us in Division Seven as the 2nds are now 46 points behind third bottom Trinity. Lack of availability has hit the side this year as more players have been required to play 1sts.
Meanwhile in colt's cricket, the 13s LOST narrowly away at Ansty 13s in the IDL Under 14s South Division. ANST 123-6 (Tanner 3-17), WC&T 109-2 (Scott, captain RCP & Jeffries all 25*, Peck 19). Scorecard & Iain's Report. A few dropped catches according to a very positive coach meant we couldn't quite overhaul their score but well played boys! Ansty is a very strong club and the 13s will go into the Festivals (13s & 14s) feeling very positive. Last game at home to Barns Green next week. Table here. Wes Scott has a great batting average of 68.5 - #2 for the Club this season behind our double centurion, Craig Pulling.
The 14s also LOST their top-of-the-table clash at Horsham Trinity in the IDL North Division. WC&T 84-9 (Tavares 25*, Smith 22), HT 85-4 (Hasler 2-19). Scorecard & Report. We didn't have enough today to disturb Trinity's rhythm once Hasler and Glover had gone cheaply and when they batted, we could never apply enough pressure in the field despite the constant rotation of bowlers and some aggressive bowling from the captain. Openers Tavares and Smith both made big scores but Trinity played all areas of the game better than us especially in the running between the wickets and sharper fielding. Our last game at this morning's leaders Crawley is next Saturday so let's end the season on a high as many players are unavailable for the Festival. Crawley lost their second successive game yesterday - away at local rivals Three Bridges - so having been unbeaten for so long now appear to be fighting with us for second place. Our 14s are guaranteed 3rd but if we can beat Crawley and by some miracle, bottom side Ifield win their first game of the season against title favourites Trinity, we can still win the League...

Sunday 18th July. Our first win of the weekend as the 12s WON comfortably at Southwater as we smashed nearly nine an over to end our losing sequence at this age group. We're sitting in mid-table before the last game at Cuckfield on Wednesday who are just below us. WC&T 174-7 (Good 30*, Miller 28, Fritche & Menzies-Smith 25*), SOU 128-6 (Miller 2-3). Scoreboard. Table
The Sunday side WON their seventh game of the season at Washington. WC&T 227-7 (Llewellyn 52, Armstrong 50), WASH 183 a/o (Armstrong 3-13, Tolson 3-20, Reeves 2-20) Scorecard. This is our first victory over Washington as a merged club on our first visit there for several years. Last season's best ever total of eight wins for our Sunday friendly side (which was the best since 2003) is already seriously under threat with ten fixtures still to be contested!
