NewsWeek 12 - Where's everyone gone? (July 05, 2010)
OneClub News
Tuesday 29th June - The U11s WON at Plaistow in the Identilam League and remain unbeaten. WC&T 113-4 (Lee 21*, Miller 20*, Cope 19) , PLAIS 93 a/o (Cope 5-9, Miller 2-12). Scoreboard and Report. Patrick Cope produced the 11s best ever bowling figures for the Club (and our first "michelle pfeiffer") as the visitors contained their hosts and stayed top of the league. Eddie Miller's batting average continues to grow! We're top of the table of course!

The U13s WON by 100 runs at home to Chichester Priory Park in the West Area League. WC&T 159-3 (5 batsmen retired), CHI 59 a/o (Peck 4-3). Scorecard. Gabriel Peck goes second on the list of all time best figures behind Cian Brittle's five at Arundel in last year's festival. The Jeffries' boys definitely like the WACA as the 14s did last year when they won the title.
Wednesday 30th June - The U13s (2nd) WON again at home to top-of-the-table Findon in the West Area League to take over at the top ourselves. Well played boys! Scoreboard to follow here.
Saturday 3rd July
And so to the weekend and most of our club membership decided to hire a huge bus and leave the area. A disappointing Saturday. The 2nds game was conceded and our 1st XI had several new faces but in the end we were no match for Worthing Chipps. Fitzgerald, Hardisty, Pulling, Sean Goring and Tom Maslona were all absent from last week's 1st XI.
The 1st XI LOST at home to fellow promotion candidates Worthing Chippingdale at the Rec in our WSICL Division Three game. WC 191 a/o (Chaloner 5-45), WC&T 138 a/o. In almost identical fashion to the game at theirs where they again batted first, their score would have been much lower had we not dropped six catches... In reply, once Will Chambers left a swinging delivery that disturbed leg stump and Mick Armstrong was caught behind, it quickly became a procession. Conrad Mumby looks a real find picking up a couple of wickets and batted well in his first innings for a long time. Chaloner dependable as ever picked up a five-for but much of the support bowling was picked off at will by the Chipps lower order. Next week following our annual cricket week, we play another club having a good season, Barns Green and we need to get a torch and locate our missing players. The table now reads like this with Barns Green having a game in hand. We hang onto third place just but it's very tight now. A win at Green next weekend would make things interesting as we go into our second week off and get stuck into the last six weeks of the season. The question is can we get a decent side out?

The 2nds game conceded at home to top-of-the-table Himani. Chances are we'd have lost anyway. The games we need to win are against the teams immediately above us. We host Horsham Trinity next weekend who are one of those sides ahead of the OneClub Summer Barbecue. Division Seven table looks like this:

Earlier the U10s hosted Barns Green whilst the U13s returning to IDL action LOST a good game at our nemesis, Wisborough Green. Scores when we have them.
Sunday 4th July
The U12s continued the gloom as they LOST at home to Ansty (Eddie Miller run out without scoring!) and the U16s conceded their match at Horsham. Clearly most 16s must have gone away with their parents!
The Sunday side's victory gives us another excuse to once
again demonstrate the poor shape of Horatio's sausage
But wait... hang on..., the Sunday side has confounded us all again and WON on our annual visit to Ashurst. WC&T 195-9 (S.Pulling 37), ASH 101 a/o (Aftanas 3-16). Scorecard. Two debuts up the road with Denton bringing in James Howgate and Richman Senior, Paul, to bolster the side. Until this year we'd had a washout, a draw and a famous tie last season when former colt Mark Fischel nearly took the home side to victory before being bowled by Llewellyn the Barbarian. So our first ever win there and a good way to conclude a poor weekend in general before we begin the rigours of cricket week tomorrow. No one really made a big score as we batted first on a slow pitch but plenty of extras saw us make nearly 200. In reply, Paul "Pav" Aftanas took a Chilt best 3-16 and Steady Stu Miller bowled a miserly spell too as the hosts were skittled for just 101.
