Winless Week 3 - 1sts draw at Worthing Chipps

(May 03, 2010)

Saturday 1st May
Mick again
Mick shows what he thinks of the support bowling & ground fielding

The 1sts gave a debut to Alex Armstrong today who teaches with Mick at Windlesham but are still looking for their first win of the season as the 1sts (4pts) DREW away at Worthing Chippingdale (11pts).  The hosts relegated last term were a tough start but after we had them 11-3, all was looking rosy.  Mick snaffled all three - one to a good catch behind by keeper Hardisty who had a good start to his season today.  However we let them off the hook with two drops and their opener and number five made us pay by grabbing a hundred and fifty runs between them.  A lot of balls in the air just dropping short and the ball bobbling around. Eventually Chipps posted 193-6 - Mick grabbing his first Michelle of the season which took him to 103 wickets for the Club.  A great effort in just over a season.  Fitz & JC bowled okay but the rest of the support bowling wasn't good enough - 12 overs for nearly 70 runs.  Vice captain Rhino had a game to forget after his bowling got tonked and he later made a duck.

After tea, we set about our target but we never really got going after setting up a platform. No big partnerships and only David reaching 50 as he struggled running between the wickets after a winter of fine dining with Mrs H.  Alex Armstrong making 21 on debut and Craig Pulling showed attacking intent with 19* when we could have folded at the end.  Next week hopefully Mick will be able to get the side he wants as we take on Barns Green at the Rec.  As the league unfolds, this may prove a good result today although we collected few bonus points.

Chipps 193-6 (M.Armstrong 5-50), WC&T 143-7 (Hardisty 50). Scorecard here

After one game, we are next to bottom of Division Three with four points - St Andrews, who  lost, achieved 12 points and are ahead of us and Chipps.  How can that be?  We draw but a team that loses goes ahead of us.  Partridge Green also lost but managed five points and are third bottom.  Broadbridge Heath are bottom.  Dome Mission & Three Bridges 3rds are the early pace setters.

Fingers back in charge at the Rec.

The 2nds (12pts) LOST to Himani (26pts) at home.  We made just over 200 - Rob Llewellyn (68) and Sean Goring (also a career best 68) on his return to cricket top scoring but Himani's opening bat, Bharathi, made a ton to set his side up for victory.  Jim took two wickets but they got home with just four down.

WC&T 209-8 (Llewellyn 68, S.Goring 68), Hirmani 210-4 (Gee 2-10).  Scorecard here

The 2nds are currently third in Division Seven with 12 points, Himani are setting the pace.

Sean Goring
Scrawny Sean Goring hits a career-best 68 as he joint top scores for the 2nds on his return.

Both colts sides lost today - the 10s at Lindfield in their pairs game - and the 13s predictably at home to the mighty Cuckfield's 14s.  Captain Reece Collins-Powell made 23 and keeper Will Jeffries retired but defending a total of 69 was always going to be tough against the mid Sussex side and so it proved.  James Monaghan & Wes Scott getting a wicket apiece as the visitors reached their target in the 15th over.  Scorecard

The 10s are fourth out of nine in the IDL Under 10s South Division.  Cuckfield, Steyning & Lindfield are setting the pace.  The 13s are in mid table of the IDL Under 14s Division South - sixth out of twelve.  The 14s have yet to play yet of course as have three other clubs. The IDL Under 14s North Division where they are playing has Horsham Trinity & Horley as the early pacesetters.

Sunday 2nd May
The 12s were due to visit Cuckfield and the Sunday side,  Storrington to contest the John Davenport Cup.  However both games were washed out.  We hope to be able to re-arrange the JD game later in the year.

The 12s are in the Under 12s South Division and are yet to play.  Barns Green is the only side with a perfect record - two wins out of two.
