CWB - Mick Armstrong - Donate here! (April 10, 2010)

Africa

To prepare for the summer heatwave, Mick's off to Kenya to teach the locals abour cricket and learn a bit about the country.  If it's anything like Mark "Sherpa" Aylward's trip to Botswana, it will be hard work but extremely rewarding.  Mick tells this website:

"Basically it is a way to enrich the lives of people in African nations, through sport (cricket) whilst raising the awareness of HIV/AIDS. It is a great cause.  Fortunately I got through the application/interview process and have joined a team who head over there around Easter.  I am really looking forward to it and expect the trip to be very rewarding, for both myself and the people I work with (that’s the Kenyans), daunting, challenging, stimulating etc etc…

A bit about CWB:
Cricket Without Boundaries ("CWB") is a UK charity set up to encourage the spread and growth of cricket and to link the sport to AIDS awareness.  Since 2005, CWB has reached over 4000 children in Africa. CWB incorporates AIDS awareness into the coaching. However, awareness is not just about prevention, it is also about inclusion; a child with HIV is no different to any other. Sport, in particular cricket, helps break down the stigma of the disease and allows children of all races and sexes to play together as friends.  CWB's model aims at sustainability; CWB has trained 420 adults as cricket coaches, leaving them with an internationally-recognised qualification and the equipment to continue to train their community.  What does CWB use its money for? The biggest expense is equipment and associated transportation. Administration costs are very low so almost every penny we raise goes towards funding projects. In addition to the Kenya project CWB are also working on projects Rwanda, Botswana and Uganda.  I need to raise
at least£750, and donation, big or small will be thoroughly appreciated, by me, CWB and the people that are more directly affected in Africa.

I have set up a Just Giving page at:
http://www.justgiving.com/MickArmstrong and any donation, big or small would be greatly appreciated. The £750 plus I raise goes directly to the charity, and I will work at doing some fundraising into the New Year to hopefully raise above and beyond that £750 mark (maybe even pay off my flights a little).  There's a signed SUssex CCC bat at the above link which is certainly worth bidding for!

If you have any questions about my trip, the charity or a donation don’t hesitate to ask me.

CWB website is
http://www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com too if anyone wants to look for additional information about the charity.

Cheers, and thanks for all your support (hopefully)"
.

The humanitarian disaster in Haiti will have touched many of us and many will have given to charities to help the huge problems that country faces.  Therefore if you have any money left to sponsor Mick and Aids/HIV Awareness in Africa, the charity will be extremely grateful.

Mick
