Latest NewsWeekend 11 - A Tie at Ashurst (July 05, 2009) OneClub Colts
Wednesday - Under 11s LOST at Roffey. WC&T 94-4 (Good 23*, Scott 20*) Roffey 95-3 (MacGregor 1-7). The hosts won comfortably in the end with three overs to spare in a 15 overs-a-side match. The coach clearly has some fielding drills to work on judging by the usual detailed report: http://wct.play-cricket.com/content/view.asp?id=10250481&cid=218&tid=14&referer=&fixture=&team=10087668
Saturday - Under 14s LOST at Ansty
Under 13s WON comfortably at home to West Wittering.
WW 29 a/o (Beer 3-7), WC&T 31-1. Joe Beer is now a member of the Club again having been encouraged out of self-imposed retirement. We had all sorts of issues at the Rec on Saturday morning. Croquet players wanting to play, bees in vast numbers on the artificial pitch and when the game finally got going, the 13s were as ruthless in their dispatch of poor West Wittering as the groundsman was in dispatching most of the buzzers. Jack "Banjo" Banner collecting a wicket and stalwarts Dean Harman & George Staples also getting a bowl. Extras was the only column into double figures as Wittering were skittled out for just 29. In reply, the "sundries" were again in evidence as they totalled 20 out of the winning score of 31. Hector Crouch giving the Chilt faithful some pyrotechnics with a few lusty aerial blows. Well played boys and it was good to see many less regular contributors enjoying themselves. Sunday
Unbeaten Under 10s "WON" at Plaistow as the home side conceded the game. Here's the table as Malc's boys remain unbeaten and second in their league on net run rate:
Under 12s LOST at home to Barns Green. BG 118-4 (Richardson 2-7), WC&T 89-7 (RCP 27*, Monaghan 25*). The 12s acquitted themselves well but Green just too strong at the Rec. Another good day with that bat for captain Collins-Powell but the asking rate of six an over was too much. Young Bernie's obviously been doing throw downs in the back garden...
Adults still going for promotion with 2 wins on Saturday!
1st XI WON at Aldwick - Aldwick 108 a/o (Armstrong 5-35), WC&T 111-4 (Mick 45*)
1sts go fourth in the table with a timely return to form and aren't far away from the leaders. Come on boys, keep it going...
2nd XI vs Clymping. CANCELLED (Clymping conceded)
The easiest 30pts 2nd XI will win this season put us 2nd!
Sunday - a Tie
Sunday XI TIED at Ashurst. The first time we believe that any adult teams has been involved in a tie (Jonesy was apparently involved in a WC game in 1969). Rob Emms picked up a leg injury and left Worthing Hospital on crutches this evening. 4 ducks in the Chilt innings but Shaun Tavares & young Llewellyn put on 72 for the 2nd wicket. The team fielded and bowled well led by a certain Aussie but backed up both Tavares boys - who were joined by Crispo after Emms' injury -and JD. Both teams scored 177. (S.Tavares 49, Llewellyn 46, Armstrong 5-29) with WC&T colt and Ashurst occasional player, Mark Fischel, nearly winning the game for Ashurst with a tremendous 44 -fighting off one overseas player but not quite seeing off the second. FYI Mick now has 49 wickets this season which is a top effort. Will he get 100 for the season?
Hasler retires as Sunday capt: Beat Ansty, Lost to Strollers, Wis Green and Fittleworth and tied with Ashurst. His captaincy received mixed reviews especially for the sub fielder Crispin yesterday, his batting no plaudits and his wicketkeeping some surprising praise from some quarters. Phase 1 was almost mastered - shouting and leaping around like a madman; Phase 2 will be getting up after falling over, stumping and learning to catch
Roll on the cricket week!
