Coaches' profiles:
U16: James "Manic" Howgate is vice captain of our 1st XI. A native of Surrey, James is a left-handed batting all rounder and is also a fine fielder who only moved to West Chilt in 2010 but has already made a big impression on the Club. Tim "Growler" Monday is father of Jack-Elliott-Monday and is captain of new county side, Wisborough Green's 1st XI. Tim is an aggressive batsman who can bowl a good line and length - he learnt all he knows from his son. Shaun "Kolpak" Tavares is an aggressive middle order batsman who bowls only when really necessary, he says. A native of Durban and father of Ollie Tavares, Shaun plays occasionally when required. So a fine all round team to coach our older children. The majority will undoubtedly being playing adult cricket this season if they wish.
U14: Neil "Windy" Miller is the Club Chairman and a former Horsham player where he grew up and started as a colt before gracing the senior side at Cricketfield Road. He is predominantly an attractive top order left-hander who could bowl a bit and keep capably when required. Neil takes it easy these days and just plays 2nd / 3rd XI cricket when required. He's also the only Thakeham CC player we know who scored a century (at West Hoathly) and is still alive! Cue a message from the President by carrier pigeon...
U13: Malcolm "Fitz Fake Hoops" Fitzgerald is a veteran of this cricket club having played both for West Chiltington and WC&TCC for many years. He is an off-spinning all rounder (although his batting cameos get less as the years go by). Played last season in the 1st XI but knows he has a fight on his hands to keep his place this season in WSICL Divison Two.
U8/9/12: TBC
U11: Nick "Biggles" Burroughs is a fighter pilot for British Airways who bowls and bats a bit where necessary he says. He plays about once a season when no ones looking. Nick is coaching fthis side or the third or fourth year where his son Matt plays and is ably helped usually by Sarah Osbourne whose son Luke plays and we gather this year by Crispin Scott. Nick's team was the first but not the last green and gold side to play at Hove last year and typically, he couldn't make it due to work!
U10: "Bungalow" Bill Hay is another veteran who is resident of Thakeham and as well as expending great energy being the Club's Funding Tsar, also finds time to run this junior colt's side. Another member who plays the odd game each year, Bill is one of those you rarely see but does a great deal of work for the Club.
U7: Last but not least, we have our very own Lancastrian, Peter "Jackanory" Jones, a legend in his own pyjamas. Down the years, PJ has made thousands of runs for a number of clubs and taken many wickets with his off spin (much to his amazement). Jonesy tells the best stories and is a much loved old rogue; however his coaching skills are especially lapped up by the younger players at the Club. Famous for an immaculate forward defensive (which his younger son can still model immaculately), our Club President is the perfect example to start your child off on the road to Lords or Horsham or Hove or Amberley or dammit, The Rec at West Chiltington.
Ladies and Gentlemen, that's your coaching team.
